“Daring to be free. A figure in the struggle against slavery” at the Pantheon

The “Dare to be Free” exhibition tells the story of a struggle. That of freedom from slavery in French history. A march that spanned four centuries and three continents, punctuated by moments of rupture, regression, high points and low points. Presented at the Panthéon until February 11, 2024, this moving exhibition shows how the colonial slave system has always aroused resistance and opposition .

Through the presence of those who are already honored there: Abbé Grégoire and Condorcet, Victor Schœlcher and Félix Éboué, Aimé Césaire and Joséphine Baker… But also through the evocation of lesser-known figures whose memories she brings back to life (Olympe de Gouges, Makandal, Julien Raimond…), for a more accurate and complete account.
