A hotel, a style, a renaissance: the Experimental Marais makes its mark

Some places don’t just open: they make their mark. In March 2025, Experimental Marais opened its doors on rue du Temple, radically rewriting the history of a once sulphurous address.

A new star in the Haut Marais

Located at 116 rue du Temple, in the heart of the Haut Marais district, this 5-star hotel marks a remarkable return to Paris for the Experimental group. Already present in London, Ibiza and Val d’Isère, the group distills a luxurious, festive version of contemporary hospitality, with a twist of international culture.

Formerly known as the Sinner, the establishment has now been transformed by Tristan Auer, one of the most sought-after architects of his generation. The result is a neo-Gothic ambience, with spectacular arches, inspired stained-glass windows and theatrical volumes. A scenography at the crossroads of raw elegance and neighborhood memory.

The setting and narrative of Experimental Marais

Tristan Auer has conceived this hotel as an episodic film, with its hero a dandy traveler who has come back from nothing. The materials – revisited with care – and whisky hues give the ensemble the allure of an aesthetic, introspective remake. Assertive elegance, never ostentatious.

Temple & Chapon: a table that evokes the fifties

The Temple & Chapon restaurant, run by chef Mélanie Serre (a former Joël Robuchon), boasts a menu influenced by American classics of the 50s. Seafood, exceptional grills and old-school desserts take their place under a ** cathedral glass roof** – one of the most beautiful in Paris.

The bar, meanwhile, plays the American institution card, with cocktails such as Benton’s Old Fashioned or the Quetzal, a nod to New York as much as to contemporary mixology.

Confidential wellness at Experimental Marais

Finally, the Spa Experimental x Suzanne Kaufmann offers massages and beauty treatments in a hushed setting, extended by a hidden pool, like a secret to be discovered at the end of the day.
