A silent battle against disease
According to the results recently revealed by TMZ, Michelle Trachtenberg died of complications related to diabetes, after several years of chronic health problems. Her family, initially opposed to an autopsy, finally allowed a toxicological analysis, which confirmed that the cause was natural.
A few months before her death, the actress had undergone a liver transplant. A major operation, which seems to have exacerbated her weakening. According to a close friend quoted by People, she was “very weakened emotionally” and confided to friends that she was “struggling”. Her physical state was a cause for concern: pale, thin, exhausted… all signals ignored by the general public.
A star in the spotlight
Michelle Trachtenberg’s fame began at an early age. At the age of 11, she played Harriet the Little Spy, a role based on the novel by Louise Fitzhugh. But she was no novice: at the age of 3, she had already begun to act in commercials.
But it was in the cult series that her face became most familiar. In Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she played Dawn, the heroine’s unexpected sister, then Georgina Sparks in Gossip Girl, a character both provocative and unforgettable.
Since the end of Gossip Girl, her on-screen appearances had been few and far between, although she did briefly reprise her voiceover role in the animated adaptation of Harriet and in a cameo for the reboot of the cult series.
A disappearance that continues to shock
Tributes soon poured in, notably from Sarah Michelle Gellar and Blake Lively, her former partners. Her last post on Instagram in January 2024, in which she responded to criticism of her figure, now takes on tragic resonance.
