Cannes Festival 2025: films in competition unveiled

Could Cannes 2025 be the most committed edition of the decade? The 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, to be held from May 13 to 24, 2025, has just unveiled its official selection. A long-awaited announcement, marked by bold choices, a celebration of women’s cinema and a resolutely international dimension.
Juliette Binoche, Robert De Niro and a selection under high tension
Actress Juliette Binoche will preside over this year’s jury, while Laurent Lafitte will host the opening and closing ceremonies. A special tribute will be paid to Robert De Niro, who will receive an honorary Palme d’Or, underlining the mark his career has left on the 7th art worldwide.
On Thursday April 10, 2025, Festival president Iris Knobloch and general delegate Thierry Frémaux revealed the eagerly-awaited list of films in competition. Among the names mentioned: Justine Triet and Coralie Fargeat, up-and-coming figures in French cinema, once again mark the festival’s feminist roots.
A selection that echoes the times
More than ever, Cannes 2025 aims to reflect the diversity of cinematic voices and contemporary issues. From young talents to established auteurs, the selection promises a vibrant, political and sensitive edition, true to the festival’s 78-year vocation.
