Leonardo DiCaprio on camera with Paul Thomas Anderson

The power duo of Paul Thomas Anderson and Leonardo DiCaprio are set to cause a sensation with One Battle After Another. A big-budget film that promises a cinematic fresco as intense as it is poetic.

An ambitious project for DiCaprio and Paul Thomas Anderson

After the bewitching Licorice Pizza (2021), Paul Thomas Anderson returns with a new adaptation of a Thomas Pynchon novel, Vineland. This colossal project, estimated at $140 million, brings together a Hollywood-style cast led by Leonardo DiCaprio. The Oscar-winning actor will co-star with Chase Infiniti, Alana Haim (already seen in Licorice Pizza) and Regina Hall.

A tale of family quest and political satire for Leonardo DiCaprio

While the script remains a closely-guarded secret, we do know that One Battle After Another will follow the story of Prairie, a 14-year-old girl in 1984, in search of her mother Frenesi Gates. A former anarchist involved in the protest movements of the Reagan and Nixon years, she has mysteriously disappeared. Part family drama, part political satire, the film promises a captivating immersion in an America that is both libertarian and fragmented.

A commercial turn for Anderson?

According to Deadline, this film would represent the most commercial project ever undertaken by Paul Thomas Anderson. A change of direction for the director, whose filmography generally oscillates between poetry and absurdity(Punch Drunk Love, There Will Be Blood). The scope of the project and the presence of DiCaprio suggest a new ambition: to marry Anderson’s singular style with mainstream accessibility.

Scheduled for release in September 2025

One Battle After Another will hit cinemas on September 6, 2025. The wait will be long, but fans of the filmmaker and DiCaprio can already look forward to an intense and daring work. Will this film mark a turning point in Paul Thomas Anderson’s career? Verdict in a year and a half.
