Louane: her moving Eurovision performance

On May 17, Louane will represent France at Eurovision with a poignant song, “Maman”. A performance that has already left its mark, and which resonates as a powerful tribute.

A moving preview at the Stade de France

During half-time of the France-Scotland match in the Six Nations Tournament, Louane lifted the veil on Maman, the song she’ll be defending atEurovision 2024 in Switzerland. Perched on a platform twelve meters high, wearing a sparkling dress by Paco Rabanne, the 28-year-old singer captivated the 80,000 spectators at the Stade de France.

With deeply personal lyrics – “In the end, you see, I built my life. And the emptiness is great, and so are the questions.” – Louane pays a vibrant tribute to her mother, who passed away in 2014. Her intense performance, accompanied by a marching band and martial drums, moved the audience.

An intimate and universal message

After this first performance, Louane confided that she felt the need to take stock of her career and express, through this song, what she would have liked to say to her mother today. More than a simple tribute, Maman also marks a transmission, as the song ends with the voice of her daughter, Esmée, a moment the singer describes as “the most beautiful part of the song”.

This bold artistic choice led Louane to remove her previous track Maman (2015) from Spotify and Apple Music, to avoid any confusion with this poignant new ballad.

Strong support for the competition

The last Frenchwoman to win Eurovision in 1977 with L’Oiseau et l’Enfant, Marie Myriam expressed her admiration: “Louane is a luminous, generous, beautiful and moving artist. Her song resonates with us all. I believe in her victory.”

With such a heartfelt performance and unwavering support, Louane could well give France back its long-awaited victory. Answer on May 17 in Basel.
