The world’s first Ecocert-labeled spa is French

The Spa L’Occitane en Provence, located at the Couvent des Minimes in the Luberon, becomes the first establishment in the world to obtain Ecocert certification for a sustainable wellness center.

After an extensive renovation in 2023, the Couvent des Minimes, already the recipient of numerous distinctions (Relais & Châteaux, one Michelin star, five hotel stars), has won a new and unprecedented accolade. Its Spa L’Occitane en Provence has just been awarded the “Centre de bien-être durable” label by Ecocert.

A spa committed to responsible well-being

This certification is based on three major pillars: theuse of natural and organic products for skincare;social commitments to ensure the well-being of employees; and a reduction in the ecological footprint, notably through theuse of geothermal energy and optimized wastewater management.

The Spa L’Occitane en Provence has thus become a global benchmark in the responsible operation of spas. Its virtuous practices should appeal to a luxury clientele increasingly sensitive to sustainability, since 9 out of 10 luxury travelers take this aspect into account when choosing their accommodation, according to a Marriott Bonvoy study.

A strong trend towards eco-responsible well-being

Ecocert certification comes at a time when sustainable wellness has become a priority in the luxury tourism industry. According to the Buzz vs Reality 2024 report, almost two-thirds of high net worth individuals (HNWI) consider these facilities to be essential to their vacations. This finding is confirmed by the Accor Group, which reports that 80% of its customers place well-being at the heart of their hotel experience.

With this pioneering certification, Spa L’Occitane en Provence confirms its commitment to responsible, sustainable luxury, positioning France at the forefront of ecological well-being worldwide.
