Kendrick Lamar’s bootcut jeans set Super Bowl 2025 alight

Can bootcut jeans overshadow a Super Bowl performance? That’s the question many are asking after Kendrick Lamar’s show on February 9. The American rapper caused a sensation not only with his performance, but also with his bold choice of clothing.

Jeans that divide opinions

Signed by Celine, these faded bootcut jeans were tailor-made for the artist’s six-foot-five frame. The cut, loose enough to skim the ground without dragging, provoked contrasting reactions on social networks. While some saw it as a nod to the 2000s, others likened the style to that of Pharrell Williams, artistic director of Louis Vuitton homme.

More than just a choice of clothing

This cut of denim could have a political dimension. As the New York Times points out, “it’s conservative politicians who are wearing skinny jeans today”, suggesting a stylistic polarization indicative of deeper cleavages.

Kendrick Lamar’s meticulously orchestrated look

The rapper completed his outfit with a custom jacket by Martine Rose, adorned with patches, one of which read “Gloria”, a reference to his latest album GNX. On the back, the “pgLang” logo recalls the agency he co-directs. A fitted cap with feather brooch and “A” chain – a possible allusion to his Grammy Award-winning track “Not Like Us” – completed the ensemble.

This appearance marks another step in Kendrick Lamar’s growing influence on fashion, having been front row at the Chanel show in January 2024.
