Juliette Binoche: President of the Cannes Festival 2025 Jury

Juliette Binoche will succeed Greta Gerwig as President of the Jury at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, to be held in May 2025. Forty years after her first appearance on the Croisette, the French actress is entrusted with the prestigious mission of presenting the Palme d’Or on May 24.

The announcement of her presidency resonates with her own background. The actress is fond of recalling that she was born during the fortnight when cinema lights up Cannes. In 1985, she climbed the steps of the Palais for the first time withAndré Téchiné‘s Rendez-Vous, a seminal moment in her career. In an official press release, she shares her emotions about this honorary role: “I weigh the privilege, the responsibility and the absolute need for humility.”

An actress with a universal filmography

The Cannes Film Festival highlights the diversity and audacity that characterize Juliette Binoche’s career. She has worked with renowned directors the world over, from Michael Haneke to David Cronenberg, via Leos Carax, Naomi Kawase, Amos Gitaï and Krzysztof Kieślowski. Her artistic career extends beyond cinema, as she has also distinguished herself in theater, dance and even music.

Winner of the Prix d’Interprétation Féminine at Cannes in 2010 forAbbas Kiarostami‘s Copie Conforme, she is a key figure in world cinema. Her last film in official competition was Trần Anh Hùng‘s La Passion de Dodin-Bouffant in 2023, in which she co-starred with Benoît Magimel.
