Taokan, the elegance of Chinese gastronomy in Paris

Taokan stands out in the Parisian culinary landscape for its ability to blend Chinese tradition with French elegance. Nestled in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Taokan offers a gastronomic experience of the highest order.
Taokan, a benchmark for exceptional dining on the Left Bank
Taokan has been serving its fabulous Cantonese cuisine for 13 years. Since then, the restaurant has made a name for itself as a safe bet. If the menu doesn’t change much, you know why you come. Above all, you’ll return with the greatest of pleasures. Taokan’s decor, conceived by designers Hélène and Olivier Lempereur, is characterized by its uncluttered elegance. With its pale leather banquettes and ebony furniture, each space invites sensory immersion. The cosy, Zen atmosphere transports guests far from the hustle and bustle of Paris.
Cantonese cuisine reinvented
In charge of the kitchen, Chef Au Tien Dat offers an inventive reinterpretation of Cantonese classics. Dim sum, Taokan’s flagship specialty, is carefully prepared to “touch the heart” – the very meaning of “dim sum” in Cantonese. Taokan, with its traditional recipes, plays with French products. One example is the superb pan-fried spinach with peanut sauce. Fans of fine meats can delight in the fine cuts of duck, beef or chicken caught on teppan. On the fish side, the offer is just as tempting. Caramelized salmon, steamed sea bass fillet drizzled with herbed soy sauce, miso-lacquered scallops. All fish fillets are cut and pampered by the chefs as they arrive. Each dish is served in elegant crockery.
The choice is hard to make, you’ll be warned. But fortunately, the waiters at Taokan are always on hand with good advice, carefully recommending the most appropriate pairings. To prolong this high-level culinary experience, don’t hesitate to look at the desserts, which mix a few classics (coconut pearls, glutinous rice with fresh mango, fresh fruit) with less expected creations, such as green tea pancakes or chocolate egg rolls. A final touch that brings our gourmet escapade to a brilliant close.
