Hermès celebrates paper with a new lecture series
In 2025, the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès is inaugurating a new series of Parisian conferences dedicated to paper, highlighting craftsmanship and innovations around this material.
Paper, at the heart of the Hermès story
An iconic symbol of the House, Hermès’ famous orange boxes bear witness to the importance of paper in its heritage. This year, theAcadémie des savoir-faire of the Fondation Hermès devotes its 7th thematic cycle to this material, exploring its origins, its role in craftsmanship and its contemporary challenges, particularly in terms of sustainability.
Under the educational direction of designer Constance Guisset, this rich and varied program kicks off with two lectures entitled “Les Fondamentaux” (January 18 and March 1), tracing the history of paper in France and around the world.
An eclectic, committed program
The cycle continues with original themes:
- “Industrialization of materials” (March 29), on modern production processes.
- “Surface/Volume” (April 26), exploring the role of paper in architecture, design and fashion.
- “Ink and Light” (June 14), a plunge into photography and printing techniques.
These events will feature a variety of experts from the worlds of research, engineering and the arts, offering multi-dimensional perspectives on this humble but precious material.
A journey through Paris
The conferences will be held in iconic Parisian venues such as the Musée Guimet, the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord and the Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art. These prestigious settings add a unique cultural dimension to the event.
Since 2014, the Fondation Hermès has organized the Académie des savoir-faire every two years, exploring a specific material or theme. After stone in 2023, this edition promises to enrich our view of paper.
