The Prada group is reportedly in talks to acquire Versace, currently owned by Capri Holdings, in a major strategic move for the Italian luxury goods industry.

A strategically Italian merger

According to information relayed by Reuters, Capri Holdings, owner of Versace, Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo, is exploring the possibility of selling its brands. Among potential buyers, the Prada group, advised by Citi, has reportedly expressed a keen interest in acquiring Versace. This move would strengthen the “Made in Italy” brand’s position in international luxury goods.

Prada: solid growth despite a challenging environment

Despite the global slowdown in the luxury goods sector, Prada posted double-digit growth, reaching 3.829 billion euros in the first nine months of 2024. With prestigious brands such as Prada and Miu Miu, the Milan-based group could strengthen its portfolio with the addition of such an iconic house as Versace.

Versace, meanwhile, is suffering a significant drop in sales, recording a 28.2% fall in the second quarter of 2025. This situation weakens Capri Holdings, already faced with the failure of a merger with the American group Tapestry, valued at 8.24 billion euros.

A unique opportunity for Prada

Prada’s acquisition of Versace would be a decisive step towards consolidating Italy’s place at the top of the world luxury goods market. If successful, it could create a major player in a rapidly reconfiguring industry.

This merger, still under study, could redefine the balance of the global luxury goods industry, while consolidating Italian excellence. The next few months will be crucial in determining the outcome of this potentially historic transaction.
