From January 23, 2025, Hubert and Zanzim’s award-winning comic strip Peau d’Homme comes to life as a musical at the Théâtre Montparnasse. Adapted and directed by Léna Bréban, this creation is designed to maintain the comic strip’s excellence.

A double-cross plot in the heart of the Renaissance

With over 200,000 copies sold, Peau d’Homme made a lasting impression with its subtle, nuanced approach to questions of gender, sexuality and (above all) freedom. The story follows Bianca, a young woman about to be married in Renaissance Italy. As she prepares to marry a man she doesn’t know, her godmother reveals a secret: a mysterious man’s skin, inherited from her family. By putting it on, Bianca becomes Lorenzo. From then on, Bianca-Lorenzo explores a world forbidden to women. This dual role allows her to discover the complexities of relationships, while challenging the social norms of her world.

Laure Calamy: a role made to measure

Laure Calamy, known for her performances on stage and in film, plays Bianca with remarkable intensity and finesse. A César award-winner, she is accompanied by a talented cast including Emmanuelle Rivière, Valentin Rolland and Régis Vallée.

An adaptation by Léna Bréban

Léna Bréban, a director renowned for her ability to tackle societal issues with humor and emotion, offers a respectful yet inventive reading of the original work. Collaborating with Ben Mazué on the songs, she adds a musical dimension to the story. Leïla Ka ‘s choreography reinforces the energy of the stage.

The scenography, by Juliette Azzopardi, oscillates between realism and fantasy. The spectator is transported into a world that is both Renaissance and contemporary.

Peau d’Homme explores universal themes such as the quest for identity, gender norms and individual freedom. Through a narrative imbued with humor and tenderness, this adaptation is a must-see.

From January 23 at Théâtre du Montparnasse.
