Anamaria Vartolomei in Merteuil: we can’t wait!

Scheduled for 2025 on the Max platform, the Merteuil series promises to revisit the sultry and intriguing world of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ novel Les Liaisons dangereuses. With a first-rate cast and meticulous direction, this project is already arousing curiosity.

A new interpretation of the classic by Choderlos de Laclos

From director Jessica Palud, renowned for such works as Revenir and Maria, this adaptation explores the manipulations and power games of 18th-century aristocracy. Supported by Jean-Baptiste Delafon, screenwriter of such successful series as Baron Noir and Tapie, Palud offers a contemporary perspective on this fascinating, erotic novel.

Merteuil follows in a long tradition of Dangerous Liaisons adaptations, while promising a fresh, immersive approach thanks to chiseled scripts and ambitious production. The series should be available by the end of 2025.

A top-flight cast

At the heart of the series, Anamaria Vartolomei, the Franco-Romanian actress acclaimed for her role in Maria, will play Isabelle de Merteuil, the complex, manipulative heroine. She will share the screen with Diane Kruger, who recently shone in the film Saint Ex, and Lucas Bravo, star of Emily in Paris, playing the Comte de Gercourt.

The cast also includes such talents as Vincent Lacoste, who won a Cesar award for his portrayal of the Comte de Valmont, and Julien De Saint Jean, who made a name for himself in Le Comte de Monte-Cristo. Last but not least, Noée Abita, a rising star in French cinema, completes this impressive cast.
