Levi’s pays tribute to Bob Dylan with an exclusive capsule
To coincide with the release of the biopic “A Complete Unknown” starring Timothée Chalamet, Levi’s unveils a denim collection inspired by Bob Dylan’s iconic jeans.
The film, directed by James Mangold, traces the legendary musician’s early career in 1960s New York. Back then, Bob Dylan swore by Levi’s, a brand that accompanied his first appearances in West Village cafés until his electric transition in the mid-1960s.
Archives for authenticity
To faithfully recreate Bob Dylan’s iconic looks, Arianne Phillips, the film’s costume designer, collaborated with Paul O’Neill, director of Levi’s Vintage Clothing. Key pieces include:
- The 501 jeans dated 1955 with bootcut inserts,
- A Trucker jacket in beige suede, with engraved inside pocket showing shooting details,
- A belt adorned with a D-shaped buckle, a nod to the singer’s signature accessory.
These garments are not just a tribute to fashion, they also tell a story. In her memoirs, Suze Rotolo, Bob Dylan’s great accomplice and girlfriend, recalled how she added inserts to the bottoms of his jeans so that he could wear them over his boots.
The Super Slim and Dylan’s evolution
The 1960s marked a transformation in Bob Dylan’s style. As he met new people, notably the Beatles, his silhouettes became slimmer and his jeans tighter. The Levi’s Super Slim model, a symbol of this evolution, is back in the capsule collection, faithful to the original without stretch fabric.
A launch between cinema and fashion
The film “A Complete Unknown” will be accompanied by this limited-edition collection. A successful encounter between cinema, history and fashion, offering the public the chance to wear a piece of Bob Dylan’s iconic style. Available soon, these pieces blend nostalgia and modernity to delight fashion and music fans alike.
