Bernard Arnault, his entry into the Académie
LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault joins the prestigious Académie des sciences morales et politiques, now occupying chair no. 1 in the political economy, statistics and finance section.
With 27 votes out of 40 in the first round, Bernard Arnault beat off two other candidates, including teacher-researcher Philippe Coffre and renowned economist Alain Redslob. His election, made official on December 2, 2023, marks a new chapter in the career of the world leader in luxury goods. Succeeding Denis Kessler, former Chairman of SCOR, Bernard Arnault joins this institution, founded in 1832 and renowned for its expertise in social and economic debates.

An Academy at the service of society
The Académie des sciences morales et politiques, an integral part of the Institut de France, brings together fifty academics elected for their contribution to major social issues. Figures such as Jean Tirole, winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics, and former ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet are among its members. The Academy’s sections cover a wide range of fields, including philosophy, sociology and history.
In joining this institution, Bernard Arnault is part of a tradition aimed at shedding light on contemporary debates. This distinction adds to an already impressive list of honours, following his award of the Grand Cross of the Légion d’Honneur last March.
