Björk transforms the Centre Pompidou into an ecological manifesto
Björk takes up residence at the Centre Pompidou with a unique sound work. “Nature Manifesto” is an immersive experience that celebrates nature while raising awareness of environmental issues.
An installation between nature and urban architecture
In the famous Chenille at the Centre Pompidou, Björk, in collaboration with Aleph, presents an original sound work from November 20 to December 9, 2024. The project, conceived as an ecological manifesto, invites visitors to rethink their relationship with nature. The Centre Pompidou, soon to close for renovation, becomes the stage for a powerful message about the urgent need to preserve our planet.
This hybrid installation blends acoustic music, artificial intelligence and soundscapes. Björk’s voice, accompanied by the cries of extinct or endangered animals, weaves a poignant tale of environmental challenges. “The web of life will unfold into a world of new solutions,” declares Björk in her manifesto. This post-optimistic message delivers a vision of hope in the face of collapsing ecosystems.
A unique sensory experience
“Nature Manifesto” punctuates the 3 minutes and 40 seconds of the Centre Pompidou’s escalators. This immersive work combines sounds and visuals to raise visitors’ awareness of the human impact on biodiversity. An animation by Balfua, representing a half-human, half-bird creature, accompanies the experience. The evolution of this figure symbolizes the resilience and transformation of nature.
As part of the Biodiversity: what culture for what future? forum, this project is a call to action to protect the living world. It will be one of the Centre Pompidou’s last major events before it reopens in 2030.
