Jules Koundé: irony as well-worn as his outfits

French national team defender Jules Koundé never goes unnoticed, and this week at Clairefontaine he caused another sensation.

On November 11, he arrived wearing a simple blue tracksuit in the colors of the French national team and black pants, abandoning the exuberant outfits that have earned him criticism. This sobriety, for once, seems to be an ironic response to those who judge his style.

Koundé has often been criticized for his atypical outfits, inspired by the NBA’s “tunnel fits”, a phenomenon he introduced to France and which is now nicknamed the “Clairefontaine walk”. Some media outlets have even dubbed Clairefontaine a “theater of unhinged links between fashion and soccer”, in reaction to the daring clothing choices of certain players. Ibrahima Konaté, for example, recently caused a stir when he arrived in a green Kenzo balaclava, triggering an avalanche of comments on social networks.

In the face of criticism, Koundé remains undaunted, preferring to respond with humor. On the previous arrival of Les Bleus, he quipped: “I promise, next time, we’ll all arrive in tracksuits, cleats, and parka if need be.” This month, he opted for a seemingly simple but highly sophisticated look, with luxury accessories such as Medusa glasses by Versace, an adidas beanie and sneakers, and a Louis Vuitton quilted bag.

A fashion enthusiast with a sleek style

Koundé, an ambassador for the adidas brand, stands out for his “chameleon” style, which he himself describes as being in a constant state of research. “A lot of players have stylists, it’s a real job. But for now, I’m doing it on my own,” he explains. By personally choosing his outfits, Koundé proves that he knows how to play with fashion without letting trends dictate his style.

On Instagram, he continues to show his eco-responsible side, posting a caption reminding us of his concern for the environment, and demonstrating that, despite the critics, he remains true to himself. With this well-thought-out look, Jules Koundé sends out a message: he controls his image, knows who he is, and above all, he assumes every stylistic choice, mocking outside judgments with elegance and subtlety.
