Bambou, Gainsbourg’s last love, his autobiography

©xoeditions

The last companion of Serge Gainsbourg, Bambou recounts in “Pas à pas dans la nuit” her life’s journey, marked by hardship and rebirth thanks to love.

Bambou, model-turned-muse, opens up frankly. With a childhood marked by abuse, she describes a journey of “perpetual night”, moving forward “step by step, never knowing where [elle] was going”. These words open the book and set its sincere, poignant tone. Every page reveals wounds, but also victories.

Meeting Serge Gainsbourg

It was in 1980 that Bambou crossed paths with Serge Gainsbourg, a meeting that would prove to be a turning point. Their relationship, which began one evening at the Élysée-Matignon, would become a pillar, forming what she calls a “magnificent pact of love”. For thirteen years, Gainsbourg was a refuge for her, a love that enabled her to overcome her wounds. In one of her confidences, Bambou explains: “I wanted this book to say thank you to him, and to say what a grace he was outside the din of fame and provocation.”

Support from Étienne Daho

Bambou was reluctant to tell his story for a long time, but it wasÉtienne Daho ‘s encouragement that finally triggered the writing of his book. ” Bambou, you should write your truth”, he told her. This advice was a wake-up call, prompting her to finally reveal the past she had been keeping buried. The result is a touching autobiography, in which she wisely expresses her resilience and gratitude to those who supported her.

Pas à pas dans la nuit”, published by XO Éditions, is now available in bookshops.
