Paris Photo returns to the Grand Palais for its 27th edition with an array of unique exhibitions and a rich program.

In Paris, the Grand Palais is once again hosting Paris Photo, the international photography fair, from November 7 to 10, 2024. With 240 exhibitors from 34 countries, this edition highlights the evolution and diversity of photography around the world, paying tribute to historic figures and celebrating contemporary practices.

Paris Photo 2024 offers an immersion into the world of photography, under the banner of experimentation and visual memory. Among the highlights, the centenary of Surrealism is celebrated with a carte blanche given to iconic American director Jim Jarmusch, who has designed a thematic trail and will present a public conversation. Another important commemoration is the centenary of Robert Frank, whose influential work is exhibited from different perspectives by Pace, Thomas Zander and publisher Steidl.

Paris Photo sectors

Visitors can discover several distinct thematic areas within the Grand Palais. The Main sector brings together 147 galleries, and features monumental series as well as remarkable visual installations, such asAugust Sander‘s People from the Twentieth Century series, exhibited for the first time in Europe.

New this year, the Voices sector features artists from the Latin American and Eastern European scenes, curated by Elena Navarro, Azu Nwagbogu and Sonia Voss. These exhibitions highlight themes such as identity, memory and political dissidence. For fans of experimental photographic techniques, the Digital sector, curated by Nina Roehrs, explores the boundaries of the image with cutting-edge digital projects.

Elles × Paris Photo: a tribute to women photographers

A landmark initiative, the Elles × Paris Photo trail, organized by Raphaëlle Stopin with the support of Women In Motion, celebrates the work of women photographers. Since 2018, female representation has risen from 20% to 38% thanks to this program. In 2024, four galleries are receiving financial support to present exhibitions by women, reinforcing the commitment to gender diversity in photography.

Photo Books in the spotlight

This year’s Paris Photo Editions sector includes 45 international publishing houses. This sector highlights the importance of the photographic book in the history of this art form, with launches, rare editions and over 400 artists’ signatures. Paris Photo will also be awarding the Prix du Livre, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of printed photography.

The art of conversation

Paris Photo also offers a program of conversations and Artist Talks with influential personalities. Among the topics discussed, Jim Jarmusch explores the influence of surrealism in his work, while Tyler Mitchell discusses the seduction of the image in the digital age with Deborah Willis. A dedicated area, L is for Look, also offers a playful introduction to children’s photography, with interactive workshops for the very young.
