TAG Heuer and Netflix celebrate Ayrton Senna
To mark the 30th anniversary of Ayrton Senna’s death, TAG Heuer and Netflix are paying tribute to him with a biographical series and a collector’s watch.
On May 1, 1994, at the age of 34, Ayrton Senna died tragically at the San Marino Grand Prix on the Imola circuit. Three decades on, Netflix is preparing a six-part biopic starring Gabriel Leone as the famous driver. The series explores his life on and off the racetrack, and touches on his links with TAG Heuer. Senna became the brand’s ambassador in 1988, sporting the TAG Heuer S/EL Link Chronograph S25.706C.
An exclusive watch in tribute to Senna
TAG Heuer is taking advantage of the release of the Senna series, scheduled for November 29, to launch a limited edition of 500 watches: the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Senna. The model, equipped with the TH20-09 movement, features a 44 mm titanium case. The back of the watch is adorned with the initial “S” and an illustration of the pilot’s eyes.
The front features a bezel engraved with Senna’s name and a skeleton dial marked with the initial “S”. The blue, green and yellow colors recall the driver’s emblematic helmet.
LVMH and Formula 1
This tribute comes at a time when LVMH, owner of TAG Heuer, is strengthening its presence in Formula 1. From next year, TAG Heuer will become the official timekeeper, replacing Rolex. Louis Vuitton and Moët Hennessy are also planning to enter this competitive world.
TAG Heuer, through this watch and the Netflix series, highlights the legacy of Ayrton Senna, a driver whose passion and talent continue to inspire. The initiative highlights the increasingly tenuous links between the brand and motorsport.
