John Galliano leaves Maison Margiela
It’s news that’s shaking up the fashion world… British designer John Galliano is stepping down from his position at Maison Margiela.
The mercato of Artistic Directors continues in the fashion industry. Alessandro Michele takes over as Artistic Director of Valentino, while Virginie Viard leaves her post at Chanel. In this wave of changes, John Galliano has also decided to leave Maison Margiela in the autumn, after 10 years of creative service at the helm of this Parisian fashion house.
According to Fashion NetworkJohn Galliano has decided not to renew his contract, despite repeated requests from the brand’s owner, Renzo Rosso. The latter was keen for the designer to extend his mandate for several more years. Galliano would thus be leaving on a high note, as his last show last January was unanimously acclaimed. That show transported the public into the intimate, bohemian atmosphere of a Parisian evening, under the Pont Alexandre III. This evocative atmosphere was also reminiscent of the famous fashion show he organized atSão Schlumberger in 1994.

The Rome-based fashion house currently has 2 artistic directors: Kim Jones for the women’s collections and Silvia Venturini Fendi for the men’s collections.
Although Kim Jones shone in his role at Dior Men, his designs for Fendi, where he debuted in September 2020, received mixed reviews.
