Chez Castel: a symbol of sublime, wild parties

Nestled discreetly at 15, rue Princesse, in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, Chez Castel remains a landmark at the heart of Parisian nightlife.

Founded in 1962 by Jean Castel, the famous entertainer nicknamed “King of Parisian Nights”, this private club embodies both the discreet luxury and vibrant history of Paris. From the moment they step inside, visitors are greeted by a hushed, refined atmosphere. The richly furnished salons, adorned with red velvet and gilding, evoke a bygone era when glamour and elegance reigned supreme.

Its gourmet restaurant, with its luxury bistro atmosphere, also offers an exceptional culinary experience. While the underground discotheque, which can accommodate up to 250 people, resonates with the bewitching rhythms that enliven the evenings. Castel quickly established itself as one of Paris’s most select venues in the 1960s and 1970s. Entrance is reserved for a hand-picked elite.

Chez Castel: the place to be for VIPs

Castel

Under the management of former Davis Cup tennis player Jacques Renavand, the club has attracted a prestigious clientele. It is made up of politicians, show business stars, journalists and other prominent figures in society. Regulars included Pierre Bénichou, Claude Brasseur, Johnny Hallyday, Catherine Deneuve and Françoise Hardy, all of whom helped forge the legend of this unusual establishment.

In the 1980s, Castel was given a new lease of life thanks to the famous Caca’s Club evenings, organized by celebrities such as Frédéric Beigbeder, Édouard Baer, Hermine de Clermont-Tonnerre and Victoire de Castellane. These events have attracted a new generation of night owls. All while preserving the elegant yet exclusive essence for which Castel is renowned.
