An unchanged symbol of Paris, the Eiffel Tower attracts millions of tourists from all over the world every year. Even if ‘real’ Parisians don’t really take the time (or any more) to stroll to the top of the Iron Lady, those passing through the capital are literally obliged to drop in!
When the Eiffel Tower was erected in 1889, it was the tallest building in the world. With over 18,000 metal elements and 2.5 million rivets, Gustave Eiffel’s work was a true feat of engineering at the time. Although the centerpiece of the 1889 World’s Fair was originally intended to be temporary, in the end it was decided to leave it where it was.
Depreciated by some, over time the Eiffel Tower has become a world-renowned icon. Today, it is the world’s most visited paying tourist attraction! No trip to Paris is complete without a visit to the Eiffel Tower, and from its summit you can appreciate the magnificent heritage of the City of Light.
