In 1975, after earning his hairdressing diploma, Massato left Japan to try his luck in Paris, the fashion capital of the world. This Haute Couture enthusiast soon made a name for himself with his talent. The trendy, ultra-stylish cuts he proposed were not lacking in originality, and within a few years he became the hairdresser of choice for the biggest stars and other fashionable models: Kate Moss, Læticia Casta, Isabelle Adjani, Sophie Marceau…
For 18 years, he travelled the world working alongside the greatest photographers, for their photo shoots and fashion shows, enabling him to build up a solid clientele. In 1993, the “creative hairdresser” finally took the plunge and opened his first salon in Paris, in the 7th arrondissement. Building on this success, he went on to open four more: two more in Paris, his adopted home, and one in Tokyo, his homeland.
Highly inspired by Japanese culture, his salons are true havens of peace and harmony, where silence and discretion reign, the better to focus on styling. Massato is one of those hairdressers who create their signature cuts in 3D, on dry hair, like sculptures.
