Dior, Jardins Enchanteurs: the couturier’s plant exhibition
In Granville, the Christian Dior Museum invites visitors on an intimate journey into the botanical world of Monsieur Dior, with a masterful exhibition dedicated to his creative interior gardens.
A tribute to childhood and the roots of inspiration
Behind every Christian Dior creation, a silent passion vibrates: that of nature. It was in Granville, in the lush grounds of the villa Les Rhumbs, that the young Dior developed his attachment to flowers and gardens. Between maritime pines and lush hedges, he found, thanks to his mother, a source of wonder that would never leave him.
Her own testimony resonates like a common thread throughout the exhibition: “Having inherited my mother’s passion for flowers, I especially enjoyed the company of plants and gardeners.” A fundamental love that would infuse each of her future works, from the design of her dresses to the composition of her perfumes.
Nature as the essence of Dior style
From his very first fashion show in 1947, Christian Dior has celebrated the flower in all its forms. The Corolle line, emblematic of the New Look, exalts sculpted femininity, evoking “flower-women” who are both fragile and sovereign. This link to the plant world goes beyond couture: it extends into the olfactory world with the creation of Miss Dior, a mythical fragrance born the same year in collaboration with Paul Vacher.
Throughout the seasons, nature remains Dior’s unfailing muse. In Milly-la-Forêt, he found refuge, while at the Château de La Colle Noire in Provence, he created his ideal garden: jasmine, May roses, lavender – each plant became a living fragment of his imagination.
An exhibition to be enjoyed until November 2025
Dior, Jardins Enchanteurs, on show until November 2, 2025, offers a delicate immersion in this world where couture and botany intertwine. Through dresses, sketches, perfumes and rare documents, the exhibition reveals the indelible imprint left by nature on the couturier’s work.
A must-see event to understand the very essence of a house that has become synonymous with timeless elegance.
