Westin Paris Vendôme, closure of a hotel giant

A landmark of Parisian luxury is bowing out, at least temporarily. At the end of April 2025, The Westin Paris Vendôme, located between Place de la Concorde and Jardin des Tuileries, will close its doors. The announcement marks the end of an era, but also the beginning of a titanic construction project.
A closing that looks like a transformation
Opened in 1878, the establishment was one of the capital’s most prestigious hotels. Bought in 2023 by Dubai Holding, owned by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the hotel will soon no longer carry the Westin name. The operator’s new identity remains unclear. While the Jumeirah brand has been mooted, Accor and other players could also enter the fray.
One thing is certain: the renovation project is ambitious. We’re talking about bringing the hotel up to 5-star standards, with a budget approaching one billion euros and a reopening date of 2028. A project that will redefine industry standards.
A socially sensitive decision
Behind the Haussmann facade, tensions. The Social and Economic Committee has confirmed the closure, in a context already marked by wage mobilizations in recent years. Some 250 employees will lose their jobs. To date, no clear information has been released on their professional future.
A place steeped in history
Over the decades, the Westin has seen crowned heads, political figures and fashion icons pass through its doors. Its location, a stone’s throw from Place Vendôme, ensured it a unique place on the map of Parisian luxury. Will this prestigious past be preserved or totally reinvented? The question remains open.
