Robert Pattinson in Dune 3? An unexpected villain to close the saga

The casting of Dune 3 could well hold a major surprise. According to Deadline, Robert Pattinson is in talks to play a key character… and a feared one at that.

A dark turn for Robert Pattinson?

After playing a tortured and mysterious Batman, is Robert Pattinson about to plunge into the darkness of the Dune universe? Rumors have been swirling since April 8: he could be joining the third chapter of the saga directed by Denis Villeneuve. The role in question? Scytale, an enigmatic, manipulative character straight out of Frank Herbert‘s novel Dune Messiah.

A bold choice… but not inconsistent. Pattinson has proven his ability to explore troubled, ambiguous figures(Tenet, The Lighthouse), which would make him a credible antagonist opposite Timothée Chalamet as a dictator in spite of himself, and a more assertive Zendaya than ever.

Dune: Messiah, epic final chapter or hasty return?

Initially announced as a creative pause, the third installment seems to have picked up speed again. In Vanity Fair, Villeneuve said he wanted to devote himself to adapting the novel Nuclear War: A Scenario. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a change of heart has taken place: Villeneuve would be returning to complete the trilogy sooner than expected.

A date has even been leaked: December 16, 2026. This “event film” announced by Warner Bros, now stamped “Denis Villeneuve project”, could well be Dune 3.

A high-voltage ending

The second installment, released in early 2024, confirmed the visual and narrative power of the saga. With the potential introduction of Scytale, master of disguise and genetic manipulation, Dune 3 promises to take the plot to a new level of darkness.
