Jonathan Anderson leaves Loewe after 11 successful years

After 11 years at the helm of Loewe, Jonathan Anderson has announced his departure, leaving behind a reinvented brand propelled to the pinnacle of luxury. The Spanish company, owned by LVMH, confirmed the news on Monday, praising the exceptional growth it experienced under his leadership.
A landmark departure for Loewe
In a statement, Jonathan Anderson expressed his gratitude to his team and said, “As this chapter closes, the Loewe story continues to evolve.” For his part, Sidney Toledano, CEO of LVMH Fashion Group, emphasized that the designer had built a rich and enduring universe.
His departure comes after a festive Loewe fashion show in March. Some observers had already interpreted the retrospectives he shared on Instagram as an early farewell to the brand.
A lasting legacy and a meteoric rise
Appointed artistic director in 2013, Jonathan Anderson had already caused a sensation with his brand JW Anderson, thanks in particular to a bold approach to unisex ready-to-wear.
Under his leadership, Loewe has grown from sales of 230 million euros in 2014 to over one billion in 2024. He has modernized leather goods with flagship creations such as the Puzzle bag, and has put craftsmanship at the heart of the brand’s DNA, notably through the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize.
A visionary designer
Anderson also left his mark on Loewe with daring campaigns featuring Maggie Smith, Jamie Dornan and Daniel Craig. He has multiplied prestigious collaborations, notably with Studio Ghibli and On Running, and has even designed costumes for Luca Guadagnino‘s films.
As Loewe turns the page, Jonathan Anderson’s influence will live on. It remains to be seen who will succeed him as artistic director.
