Chanel opens the doors to creation with a workshop at 19M
The Galerie du 19M invites the general public to an unprecedented immersion in Chanel’s Métiers d’art. An interactive and collaborative experience not to be missed until May 18.
A monumental curtain to celebrate craftsmanship
Le 19M, Chanel’s Métiers d’art center, is about to unveil a spectacular work of art: a 15 x 8-meter curtain, the result of meticulous work by the resident Maisons d’art. This creation will adorn the bay window separating the Nave and the central square of the Grand Palais, which will reopen its doors after a lengthy renovation supported by Chanel.
But this masterpiece won’t be alone. At the same time, Galerie du 19M is offering a unique participatory experience: Ornementa, a free collaborative workshop where members of the general public aged 7 and over can help create a monumental second curtain.
A workshop open to all to promote know-how
Until May 18, 2025, the Galerie du 19M welcomes young and old alike for 1h30 of creative fun, alongside artisans from prestigious houses such as Atelier Montex, Goossens, Lemarié, Lesage, Maison Michel, Massaro and Paloma. Participants can experiment with techniques such as pleating, leather weaving and embroidery, under the guidance of industry experts.
Studio GGSV imagined an immersive setting to accompany these workshops, complemented by an exhibition of works by four artists: Alix Bortoli, Marina Dellamore, Michel Jocaille and Théophile Peris. These creators will also host workshops, offering the public the opportunity to explore techniques as varied as the creation of objects in wax or embroidered felt.
A celebration of craftsmanship and transmission
More than just a workshop, Ornementa is part of an essential approach: the transmission of exceptional know-how. A booming sector, worth 68 billion euros in France last year, whose future depends on a dialogue between innovation and tradition.
