Naomi Campbell finally discovers the Louvre, 30 years after her first steps in Paris
An absolute fashion icon, Naomi Campbell has walked the catwalks of the world and experienced the most exclusive backstage areas of Paris. And yet, there’s still one mythical place missing from her list of honors: the Musée du Louvre.
Thirty years after her first visit to the capital, the supermodel finally stepped through the doors of the world’s largest museum for the Grand Dîner du Louvre, a charity event to raise funds for heritage preservation.
A symbolic first visit
Although she’s spent much of her career between runway shows, palaces and prestigious events, Naomi Campbell had never explored the galleries of the Louvre. On her Instagram account, she confesses:
“All those years spent in Paris for work, and this was the first time I’d set foot in the Louvre. It was on my bucket list, and I can’t wait to go back with my babies and experience it all.”
Dressed in an elegant Chanel look, the 54-year-old star took advantage of the evening to discover the Cour Marly, which boasts an impressive collection of sculptures under a majestic glass roof.
A missed rendezvous with history
If Naomi Campbell has never yet met the enigmatic gaze of the Mona Lisa or climbed the steps of the Victory of Samothrace, it’s not for lack of interest. In the 90s, when the Carrousel du Louvre hosted the most prestigious fashion shows, fashion and culture were still evolving in very distinct spheres.
Paradoxically, the model is a regular at New York’s Metropolitan Museum, where she regularly attends the Met Gala, as well as London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, which devoted an exhibition to her in 2024.
A long-awaited return… with family
This first visit to the Louvre will doubtless not be her last. Now the mother of two children, Naomi Campbell aspires to share this cultural experience with them on a future visit. Who knows? Maybe Rachida Dati, Minister of Culture, whom she met again at the party, will be able to offer her a private tour of the museum’s masterpieces.
One thing’s for sure: the Louvre is about to welcome a prestigious new admirer.
