“Mickey 17”: Bong Joon Ho’s space thriller starring Robert Pattinson

Six years after the phenomenal success of Parasite, Bong Joon Ho makes his comeback with Mickey 17, a science-fiction thriller as daring as it is eagerly awaited. Starring Robert Pattinson, the film, inspired by Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7, plunges into a dystopian future where immortality comes at a price.

A hero condemned to die… again and again

In an icy, merciless universe, Mickey is a “consumable”: a expendable employee sent on a suicide mission to enable mankind to colonize a hostile planet, Niflheim. With each death, he is regenerated, his memory virtually intact. But when he comes back to life after his sixth disappearance, he discovers a Mickey8 already in place… and realizes that his existence is now in peril.

Bong Joon Ho, a master of social satire, uses this plot to explore universal themes: scientific ethics, identity and the human condition. The filmmaker pushes the absurd to the limit by adding ten more clones, reinforcing the vertiginous dimension of the story.

Robert Pattinson, a role worthy of his chameleon talent

After playing Batman in 2022, a secret agent in Tenet and a tormented lighthouse keeper in The Lighthouse, Robert Pattinson reinvents himself in a complex role, oscillating between vulnerability and irony.

“The scenario seems simple at first, but Mickey’s mentality is incredibly complex. He’s a guy who has no self-confidence, but doesn’t feel sorry for himself. I ended up seeing him as an ill-trained dog who has to die 17 times to finally learn something.”Robert Pattinson

Alongside the British actor, Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, Naomi Ackie and Frenchwoman Anamaria Vartolomei complete the five-star cast.

Mickey 17, a visually stunning film

Between icy planets, strange creatures and existential stakes, Mickey 17 promises a powerful, immersive cinematic experience. After several postponements, the film finally hit the big screen on March 5, 2025.
