“Bugonia”: Yórgos Lánthimos’ next UFO starring Emma Stone

After the resounding success of Pauvres Créatures and Kinds of Kindness, Yórgos Lánthimos returns in 2025 with Bugonia, a black comedy with a prestigious cast and a delirious plot.

Yórgos Lánthimos and Emma Stone: an inseparable duo

Director of The Lobster, La Favorite and, more recently, Poor Creatures, Yórgos Lánthimos has established himself as a master of bold, offbeat cinema. His latest film has been showered with awards, including four Oscars, confirming his status as a filmmaker not to be missed.

With Bugonia, the director reunites with his favorite actress, Emma Stone, who continues to explore atypical and transformative roles. After her masterful performance in Poor Creatures, she metamorphoses once again, shaving her head for this new role.

A zany, intriguing remake

Based on the South Korean film Save the Green Planet! by Jang Joon-hwan, Bugonia promises to be an absurd, paranoid black comedy. The plot follows two men obsessed with conspiracy theories, who kidnap a powerful CEO, convinced that she is an alien invading Earth.

The film’s title is a reference to the ancient myth of bugony, a ritual of bee regeneration, hijacked here to serve a plot that’s both whimsical and satirical.

An exceptional cast

In addition to Emma Stone, Bugonia boasts an impressive cast, including Jesse Plemons, who continues his collaboration with Lánthimos after Kinds of Kindness, and Alicia Silverstone, a 2000s icon revealed in Clueless.

The film, currently in post-production, will be released on November 5, 2025. With its singular universe and star-studded cast, Bugonia promises to be a cinematic experience as intriguing as it is unclassifiable.
