Photographer and former filmmaker Laurent Champoussin explores the world of cinema with a unique eye. In his new book, he takes us to Takasaki, a town northwest of Tokyo, where the film Yōkai – Le Monde des Esprits, directed by Eric Khoo, was shot.
For two months, his lens captured the magic of the set, highlighting Japan’s spellbinding landscapes, meticulously crafted sets and the moments suspended between takes.

In Yōkai – Le Monde des Esprits, Catherine Deneuve plays Claire, a world-famous singer who travels to Japan for her final concert. But as the stage fades, she discovers a mysterious afterlife, guided by Yuzo, a loyal admirer.
Through his shots, Laurent Champoussin captures Deneuve‘s grace and power, while celebrating the encounter between the actress and Japanese culture.
