Denis Villeneuve prepares the third installment of the Dune saga

Following the worldwide success of the first two installments, Denis Villeneuve has officially announced preparations for the filming of Dune: Part Three, scheduled for summer 2025.

Global success confirmed

The Dune film saga, directed by Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, continues to build momentum following the triumph of Dune: Part Two, which grossed over $700 million at the global box office last year. Like the first film, this second opus also received an Oscar nomination, confirming the major cultural impact of this franchise.

What do we know about the plot?

This third adaptation is based on Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah, a direct sequel to the original novel. Paul Atreides, now Emperor for twelve years under the name of Muad’Dib, faces the devastating consequences of the jihad he unwittingly provoked by accepting his role as messiah to the Fremen. Now a prisoner of a power beyond his control, he must navigate between his political responsibilities and his personal dilemmas, between love and sacrifice.

Imminent but complex shooting

According to information reported by Deadline, filming could start as early as next summer, if all preparations progress according to schedule. Zendaya, one of the saga’s leading actresses, is expected to be available after completing her current commitments, including season 3 ofEuphoria and the next Spider-Man movie.

No official details have yet been released on the filming locations, but we can expect production to return to Hungary, Jordan and Abu Dhabi, where the previous installments were filmed.

Likely release in December 2026

Although no precise date has been confirmed by Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures The release window for this eagerly-awaited film appears to be December 2026.
