A punk band leader with a degree in psychology and a passion for film, Homer Gere looks set to follow in the footsteps of his father, Hollywood icon Richard Gere.

An appearance at the Goya 2025 awards

Richard Gere will be one of the guests of honor at the Goya 2025 awards, to be held in Granada on February 8. The Pretty Woman actor will receive the International Goya, an honorary award already bestowed on Sigourney Weaver and Juliette Binoche, distinguishing personalities who contribute to the influence of cinema throughout the world.

For the occasion, he could be accompanied not only by his wife, Alejandra Silva, but also by his eldest son, Homer Gere, from his relationship with Carey Lowell. At 24, the young man has already been seen alongside his father at prestigious events, including the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival.

A family heritage of cinema and Buddhism

Homer James Jigme Gere was born in 2002, two years after the marriage of Richard Gere and Carey Lowell. His first name is a tribute to several family figures: Homer, in memory of the actor’s father; James, to honor his mother’s father; Jigme, a Tibetan word meaning “courageous”, a nod to Richard Gere’s Buddhist beliefs.

After their separation in 2013, Carey Lowell was awarded custody of Homer. Their divorce dragged on for several years, due to a disagreement over the division of the couple’s 45 million in assets. Meanwhile, Lowell, a former model and actress – notably James Bond Girl in Licence to Kill – has stepped away from the limelight to devote herself to ceramics.

A promising academic and artistic career

Homer Gere grew up between New York and Westchester, where he attended the private Hackley School. In 2019, he joinedBrown University, where he studied psychology and visual arts, graduating in May 2024. Keen to forge his own path, he also worked as an intern at his university’s therapeutic neuroscience laboratory.

While Richard Gere has always protected his son from media exposure, Homer seems to be turning to the cinema, a world to which his father introduced him. In an interview with Vanity Fair in April 2024, Richard Gere confided: “He’s just started acting and he seems to like it. He also writes and directs small films, a passion we now share.”

In 2022, Homer made his debut in the short film August. His interest in art didn’t stop there: he was also passionate about music. As a child, he learned to play the piano and drums, but it was singing and punk music that finally won him over at university, where he is now the leader of a punk band.

A big brother close to his family

In addition to his personal and artistic career, Homer Gere enjoys a close relationship with his two half-brothers, Alexander (b. 2019) and James (b. 2020), the fruit of his father’s marriage to Alejandra Silva. Richard Gere, now based in Madrid, has expressed his desire to spend more time in Spain to offer his family a balance between his two cultures.
