Reese Witherspoon co-produces cult film adaptation on Prime Video
The iconic Elle Woods will soon be making a comeback with a series adaptation of the cult film Revenge of the Blonde. Scheduled for Prime Video, the project will be co-produced by Reese Witherspoon herself.
A prequel series to explore the adolescence of Elle Woods
Released in 2001, Revenge of the Blonde marked a generation with the story ofElle Woods, a brilliant, exuberant young woman who joins Harvard to become a lawyer. Now, Prime Video has seized on the phenomenon to create a prequel series entitled Elle.
The news was confirmed in early April 2024 by US media outlet Variety, and Reese Witherspoon shared her excitement on Instagram:
“Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law, she was just a normal high school student in the 1990s,” she declared.
This new adaptation will retrace the character’s youth, long before he entered university, offering fans a fresh look at his evolution and assertive temperament.
Reese Witherspoon to produce… but also to cast?
While Reese Witherspoon will not reprise her role as Elle Woods, she will oversee the project through her Hello Sunshine production company. It remains to be seen whether she will make an appearance in the series, perhaps as narrator or in a secondary role.
With a first film grossing over $140 million, and an equally acclaimed sequel(La Blonde contre-attaque, 2003), the franchise continues to attract Hollywood interest. Development of Revenge of a Blonde 3(Legally Blonde 3) is still on hold, leaving this series as the most concrete project yet to come.
