César 2025: the two big favorites
The list of nominations for the 50th César Awards ceremony has been revealed, highlighting the films that made their mark in 2024. Leading the nominations are The Count of Monte Cristo and L’Amour Ouf, with 14 and 13 nominations respectively.
Two favourites at the head of the race
The Académie des César has revealed its list of nominations, confirming the enthusiasm of audiences and critics alike for two of the year’s major films: Le Comte de Monte-Cristo and L’Amour Ouf. Directed by Alexandre de la Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte, Le Comte de Monte-Cristo came out on top with 14 nominations, confirming its status as the clear favorite. It is closely followed by L’Amour Ouf, directed by Gilles Lellouche, with 13 nominations.
Behind these two behemoths, Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez also came out on top with 12 nominations, consolidating its place among the contenders for the most prestigious trophies.
Key categories and nominations
The performances of this year’s nominated actors and actresses testify to the richness and variety of French cinema. For the César for Best Actress, the competition will be tough between Adèle Exarchopoulos(L’Amour Ouf), Karla Sofía Gascón(Emilia Pérez) and Hafsia Herzi(Borgo).
In the men’s category, the nomination of Pierre Niney(Le Comte de Monte-Cristo) marks a new turning point in his career, as he has established himself in recent years as a key actor in French cinema. He will, however, be up against some tough opposition, including François Civil(L’Amour Ouf) and Tahar Rahim(Monsieur Aznavour).
In the supporting roles, actors like Alain Chabat(L’Amour Ouf) and Bastien Bouillon(Le Comte de Monte-Cristo) bring even more intensity to the competition.
The revelations of the year
The Césars are also an opportunity to spotlight new talent. In the Female Revelation category, Mallory Wanecque(L’Amour Ouf) and Souheila Yacoub(Planète B) are among the favorites. On the men’s side, Malik Frikah(L’Amour Ouf) and Pierre Lottin(En Fanfare) could well spring a surprise.

The top Best Film category will feature five outstanding productions:
- Le Comte de Monte-Cristo, which reworks Alexandre Dumas’ famous novel with a modern, spectacular cinematic approach.
- Emilia Pérez, a bold fresco by Jacques Audiard.
- En Fanfare, directed by Emmanuel Courcol, won us over with its sensitivity and humanity.
- L’Histoire de Souleymane, a poignant film by Boris Lojkine.
- Miséricorde, a powerful drama by Alain Guiraudie.
