After the triumph of Parasite, Bong Joon Ho returns with a daring science-fiction project: Mickey 17. This cosmic thriller, adapted from Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7, promises a biting reflection on ethics and human survival. Scheduled for release on March 7, 2025, the film stars Robert Pattinson, whose performance promises to be captivating.

A captivating storyline

Mickey 17 explores the suicidal missions of a “consumable”, a human employee cloned at will to perform the most dangerous tasks on an expedition to colonize an icy planet, Niflheim. With each death, Mickey is regenerated with his memory virtually intact. But everything changes when he returns from a presumed fatal mission to find his clone, Mickey8, already in operation. The film takes this idea a step further by introducing 17 versions of the protagonist, played by Pattinson, amplifying the emotional and philosophical stakes.

Robert Pattinson, the right choice

After landmark roles in The Batman, Good Time and Tenet, Pattinson takes on a new challenge with this complex character. “Mickey is vulnerable, slightly eccentric, and his evolution is fascinating,” explains the actor. Pattinson describes the character as “a badly trained dog who has to die 17 times to understand”. Under the direction of Bong Joon Ho, he explores new facets of his acting, blending absurdity with dramatic intensity.

Bong Joon Ho, master of social satire

Bong Joon Ho injects his signature style into Mickey 17, transforming the story into a biting, visually stunning social satire. Between the space station and the icy planet, the film promises immersive settings and palpable tension. The prestigious cast, including Mark Ruffalo, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette and Anamaria Vartolomei, adds to the film’s appeal.
