The comeback of skinny jeans in 2025

After a period of oblivion, skinny jeans are back on the fashion scene in 2025, driven by retro inspiration and a spirit of rebellion.

A resurgence on the catwalk

Long criticized and sidelined, skinny jeans are once again establishing themselves as a must-have piece. The major fashion houses are reinterpreting them in their collections: Miu Miu offers a shortened version, while Balenciaga and Dsquared2 revisit them with faded effects and bold cut-outs. Young designer Masha Popova innovates by integrating a python motif into denim, adding an avant-garde touch.

This resurgence is also due to the influence of the Indie Sleaze movement, a term popularized by Mandy Lee on TikTok. Inspired by the indie rock scene of the 2010s, this style blends casual dressing with a rebellious aesthetic, marked by bands like Arctic Monkeys and fashion icons such as Alexa Chung and Kate Moss.

Skinny jeans, a symbol of rebellion

In 2025, skinny jeans become an antidote to the sleek perfection imposed by social networks. Contrary to the clean girl aesthetic currently in vogue, these skinny pants evoke a rock’n’roll spirit and damaged opulence, as Seán McGirr at Alexander McQueen points out, inspired by Amy Winehouse. The latter, unofficial queen of Camden, made skinnies a manifesto of her rebellious attitude.
