Marion Cotillard stars in Lucile Hadzihalilovic’s drama
Marion Cotillard is back in the spotlight with La Tour de Glace, the new feature film by Lucile Hadzihalilovic, which will be presented in competition at the 75th Berlinale, February 13 to 23, 2025.
A long-awaited collaboration
Twenty years after Innocence (2005), Lucile Hadzihalilovic and Marion Cotillard reunite for a work imbued with mystery and depth. In this new film, Marion Cotillard plays Cristina, a 1970s film star who is both fascinating and fearsome. The role, nicknamed “Queen of the Snow”, is part of an unsettling plot set in the heart of the mountains.
The film tells the story of Jeanne, a 15-year-old orphan played by the young Clara Pacini. Fleeing her village, Jeanne finds refuge in an isolated studio where she meets Cristina. Admiring and quickly captivated by the actress, Jeanne becomes her protégé, without suspecting that this relationship conceals dark and threatening intentions.
A choice cast
In addition to Marion Cotillard, La Tour de Glace marks the collaboration between Lucile Hadzihalilovic and long-time companion Gaspar Noé. The director, known for his daring works, joins the cast of this psychological drama, reinforcing the enigmatic aura of the project. This is not their first collaboration, the two artists having co-founded Les Cinémas de la Zone in 1991.
A fascinating work at the Berlinale
With its ingenious take on a children’s tale, La Tour de Glace promises to be a unique cinematic experience. Lucile Hadzihalilovic, known for her sensory and poetic approach, promises an immersive production in which icy landscapes become a character in their own right.
