Walter Van Bierendonk: fashion from another world

On January 22, at Paris Fashion Week, Walter Van Bierendonk offered a unique experience with his Autumn-Winter 2025-26 show, blending science fiction and socio-political reflection.

An alien invasion on the podium

The fashion show opens with a classic figure: suit and tie and bowler hat, but one detail immediately intrigues. The elongated fingers, embroidered with bony phalanges, suggest an extraterrestrial origin. With silicone prostheses and extravagant headgear designed by Stephen Jones, the collection gradually shifts into a world populated by Alien figures. Far from being threatening, these characters carry a peaceful message on their outfits: “We come in peace”.

Technology and creativity at the service of a message

Walter Van Bierendonk explores the possibilities of new technologies, integrating 3D-printed pieces and images generated by artificial intelligence. These choices reflect a desire to rethink fashion, at a time when vintage dominates and, according to the designer, innovation in clothing is tending to disappear.

A political and societal reflection

The extraterrestrial theme is also an allegory. Against a backdrop of political and economic tensions, Van Bierendonk questions the role of fashion in a time of crisis. Echoing the space ambitions of leaders like Donald Trump, the show questions human priorities and calls for renewed creativity.
