Severance season 2: the grand return of an underrated series
After a long wait, Severance, Apple TV+’s finally acclaimed dystopian series, has made its comeback after years of anticipation. With an all-star cast and a gripping plot, this second season promises to explore the mysteries of the world of Lumon Industries in greater depth. We admit it: we underestimated it…what a slap in the face.
Warning, spoilers.
A mind-bending concept
Created by Dan Erickson and directed by Ben Stiller, Severance plunges viewers into a dystopia where the employees of Lumon Industries undergo a surgical separation of their professional and personal memories. The hero, Mark Scout (played by Adam Scott), and his team gradually discover disturbing truths about their environment.
Season 2, originally planned for earlier, was delayed by the writers’ strike and internal tensions between the co-showrunners. Ben Stiller reassured fans, however: “We’re working to make the show as good as it can be.” Despite these challenges, Apple TV+ has confirmed a weekly broadcast of 10 episodes, one more than season 1.
An unbearable plot
Although plot details remain secret, Dan Erickson hinted at an expansion of the Lumon world and a more detailed glimpse of the outside world. “We have an overall plot for several seasons, with an end point in mind,” he confided. Season 1 left viewers with some intriguing revelations, and this sequel could provide answers while raising new questions.
An ambitious promotional strategy
To celebrate the launch, Apple TV+ orchestrated a spectacular event in New York City’s Grand Central Station. On January 14, 2025, actors dressed as Lumon employees recreated an office scene in a glass box, as fans looked on in amazement. Director Ben Stiller and the cast interacted with the audience, creating an immediate buzz on social networks and amplifying the excitement around the series.
A season not to be missed
Severance follows in the footsteps of series such as Black Mirror, blending societal reflection with science fiction. By exploring the ethical implications of memory control, the series asks profound questions about identity and free will, while entertaining with impeccably constructed suspense.
