L’Oréal and IBM join forces for sustainable cosmetics
Cosmetics giant L’Oréal is teaming up with IBM to harness generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) technologies to make its products more sustainable. This strategic partnership aims to transform the way cosmetics formulations are designed, while optimizing processes to reduce ecological footprints.
AI dedicated to sustainable beauty
The alliance between L’Oréal and IBM revolves around an AI model specifically developed for the group. This innovative tool, powered by L’Oréal’s vast product data, will accelerate cosmetics formulation and reformulation processes. It will promote the use of renewable ingredients while optimizing testing, thus reducing energy wastage and waste in the production chain.
Stéphane Ortiz, Head of Business Innovation & Product Development at L’Oréal, says: “This partnership will extend the speed and scale of our innovation and reformulation pipeline, with ever more inclusive, sustainable and personalized products.”
Technology at the service of L’Oréal innovation
This tool will be made available to the 4,000 researchers working for L’Oréal worldwide. It is in line with the commitments of the “L’Oréal for the Future” program, which aims to give priority to bio-sourced materials and materials from the circular economy in product formulations by 2030.
By integrating generative AI, the leader in cosmetics strengthens its ability to innovate while meeting growing consumer expectations for ethical, environmentally-friendly products.
