When Emma Stone creates a sensation with the Pixie Cut
At the recent Golden Globes ceremony, Emma Stone caused a sensation by unveiling an elegant, bold pixie cut, marking the return to favor of this timeless tomboy cut.
Her longtime hairstylist, Mara Roszak, shared her inspirations and techniques for this style, which keeps reappearing over the decades.
A cup, a story
The pixie cut, born in the 1950s, had iconic followers such as Twiggy and Audrey Hepburn, before being reinterpreted by 90s icons such as Winona Ryder and Naomi Campbell. Today, Emma Stone brings her personal touch to this hairstyle, which combines elegance and modernity.
Described by Mara Roszak as “90s nostalgia”, this version is inspired by iconic looks, including those of Winona Ryder in 1996 and Liv Tyler in 1998. The actress’ cut features a short base at the back, lightly textured lengths on top, and a subtle gradient.
Making the perfect Pixie Cut
According to Mara Roszak, the key lies in the precision of the cut: “The smallest touch-up can make the biggest difference.” After partially blow-drying the hair, the hairstylist applied a light styling cream, Evergreen, to tame flyaways while maintaining a natural texture. Meticulous care was taken at every stage, including the use of a precision tool similar to a toothbrush, to structure the hairstyle with finesse.
The look was completed with nutmeg coloring by Tracey Cunningham. This subtle auburn shade adds depth and radiance, enhancing the glamorous effect.
A cut that adapts
Despite its sophisticated allure, the pixie cut is not universal. As hairstyling expert Delphine Courteille points out, it’s particularly suited to fine faces and slender necks, but can be difficult to wear on curly hair or textures that are too thick without proper tapering.
Pixie Cut, a timeless trend
If Emma Stone has adopted this cut for a future role, it’s likely to help put the pixie cut back at the center of trends. With customized adjustments according to morphology and hair texture, this hairstyle remains a bold, stylish option that stands the test of time.
