Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs
From March 5 to June 8, 2025, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs celebrates Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann, a major figure in Art Deco, with an exceptional exhibition of drawings, wallpapers and photographs.
A tribute to a visionary of furniture and interior design
A true triumph of the 1925 Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes, Ruhlmann is renowned for his refinement and attention to detail. This retrospective highlights his central role in the design of the famous Pavillon de l’Ambassade française, a masterpiece of aesthetic harmony featuring the work of fifty artists. This building, nicknamed the Pavillon Ruhlmann, remains a benchmark in the history of architecture and design.
An exploration of his personal archives
The exhibition unveils treasures from the Ruhlmann archives, including drawings, wallpapers and photographs, which testify to his taste for elegance and coherence in interior design. Heir to a flourishing business, he used this prosperity to give life to his artistic aspirations, attaching particular importance to ornamentation.
The Musée des Arts Décoratifs also presents, for the first time, wallpapers designed by Ruhlmann for the Defossé & Karth manufactures and the Société française des papiers peints. These rare works provide an insight into the vision of an artist who left a lasting mark on Art Deco.
An appointment not to be missed
On the 5th floor of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, this exhibition is a must-see for art history and design enthusiasts. A unique opportunity to plunge into the refined, timeless world of Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann.
