Louvre Couture: fashion meets art

The Musée du Louvre is hosting an exceptional exhibition in 2025, “LOUVRE COUTURE: Objets d’art, objets de mode”. A unique immersion that explores the intimate links between fashion and art throughout history, in the majestic setting of the Louvre galleries.

Chic artistic collaboration

From January 24 to July 21, 2025, this groundbreaking exhibition offers a dialogue between masterpieces from the museum’s Objets d’art department and iconic haute couture pieces, from Cristóbal Balenciaga to Iris van Herpen. Around 100 silhouettes and accessories illustrate the profound relationship between the decorative arts and fashion, revealing fascinating correspondences.

The exhibition spans the ages, from Byzantine treasures to 19th-century influences, the Renaissance and the splendors of the Grand Siècle. Each section highlights echoes between artistic heritage and modern creations, such as embroideries inspired by medieval tapestries, or the sculptural forms of armor transformed into dresses.

Paris, capital of fashion and art

Paris is at the center of this monumental event. 45 renowned fashion houses and designers, including Chanel, Dior, Givenchy and Jean Paul Gaultier, contribute their works to this unique retrospective. The collaboration between the Louvre’s collections and these prestigious houses embodies the very essence of Paris, the cradle of elegance and creativity.

Among the highlights, a jacket embroidered by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, inspired by an 18th-century commode on display at the Louvre, underlines the influence of the decorative arts on haute couture.

An interactive and educational experience

In addition to the exhibitions, workshops and events will enrich the visitor experience. Fun activities, such as the “Feather Brooch” and “Printed Silhouettes” workshops, will give participants a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process. A “Nuit de la Mode”, scheduled for July 4, 2025, also promises memorable performances.
