When Taylor Swift boosts sales of second-hand luxury bags

In the booming second-hand sector, luxury bags continue to shine in 2024, thanks in particular to Taylor Swift. In its latest report, the Rebag platform reveals the most popular brands and models, confirming consumers’ attraction to accessories that are both trendy and profitable.

Hermès, Goyard and the circle of “unicorns

Among the must-have brands, four stand out with resale rates reaching or exceeding 85% of their initial price. While Louis Vuitton and Chanel gained 7 and 11 points respectively, Hermès maintained its legendary reputation. However, it is Goyard that surprises this year, with bags reselling at an average of 104% of their new price.

In terms of models, the legendary Birkin by Hermès remains unbeatable: in 2024, its second-hand value will reach 250% of its original price, compared to 198% in 2023. Further proof of its undisputed place in the world of luxury.

Celebrity-driven demand

Fashion and music icons have also played a key role in the rise in popularity of certain models. Influencers and stars such as Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Taylor Swift have brought cult bags to the fore. For example, Prada’s Hobo Re-Edition 2000, popularized by models, now sells for 109% of its original price.

In particular, Taylor Swift ‘s tour boosted sales of festive bags such as Prada’s Triangle (124%) and Louis Vuitton’s Coussin (102%, versus 80% the previous year).

An industry on the move

With new artistic directors at flagship brands such as Valentino, Celine and Chanel, the luxury bag market could experience new dynamics. These changes should stimulate innovation and strengthen brands’ position in an increasingly competitive sector.
