This autumn, Isabelle Huppert appears on an iconic Balenciaga T-shirt. Is it necessary to dermo-glue a star’s head to make a luxury item?

For the coming season, Isabelle Huppert, undisputed icon of French cinema, finds herself at the heart of the new Balenciaga collection. This heavy, textured cotton T-shirt, with a shyly ripped sleeve, represents the house’s unique aesthetic: a rough mix of couture pieces and second-hand streetwear, which Balenciaga calls “Casual Everyday Outfits”.

A look between couture and disguise

The house has come up with a highly original way of wearing this striking piece: paired with a sport-short style mini-skirt, a chunky hoodie, sneakers and the Carry All Bel Air crocodile bag. A collection of names

Balenciaga pushes its universe even further with two perplexing collaborations. The first, with Automobili Lamborghini, features a limited-edition T-shirt to accompany the launch of the Temerario, a 920-hp supercar capable of reaching 343 km/h. The second, with Scholl, introduces orthopedic cork insoles in stilettos, boots and sandals, claimed to be “the most comfortable heels ever made”.

This collection reflects the Balenciaga brand’s long-abandoned identity.
