Sabrina Carpenter’s Feather video, shot in a Brooklyn church, sent shockwaves. The video, deemed inappropriate by the diocese, led to the dismissal of Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello, who had authorized its filming. The affair even necessitated a mass of “reparation” to rededicate the place of worship.

A controversial video

In the clip, the singer, dressed in a little black wedding dress with a widow’s veil, dances in front of coffins and plays ironically on themes linked to harassment. This staging did not please the Diocese of Brooklyn, whose Bishop Robert Brennan said he was “appalled”. He said, “In order to preserve public trust and protect church funds, I have appointed Bishop Witold Mroziewski as administrator of the parish.”

Revelations far beyond the church

While the clip created an outcry, it also brought to light suspicions of malfeasance involving Jamie Gigantiello. A federal investigation has revealed alleged financial links between the priest and political figures, including New York Mayor Eric Adams, who is the target of a case of illegal financing of his 2021 election campaign. Investigators uncovered suspicious financial flows between the mayor’s former chief of staff, Frank Carone, and Gigantiello.

The Brooklyn church, which has been subpoenaed, is required to provide information on these transactions. Although the charges against the priest remain unclear, his dismissal marks a desire to restore integrity within the parish.

Sabrina Carpenter’s stinging reaction

Faced with this controversy, Sabrina Carpenter didn’t hesitate to ironize during her concert at Madison Square Garden. She said, “And now what do we do? Are we talking about how I got the mayor indicted?”
